When I was little, I remember my mom would often serve up canned pears topped off with a dollop of softened and sweetened cream cheese. Have any of you had a similar dessert? (Maybe it was an 80’s thing??) My husband thought it was the weirdest thing ever when I suggested it for dessert one night after dinner. Every time I eat a pear it seems naked without cream cheese. Vanilla Cinnamon Poached Pears is a beautiful and simple recipe that will fill your home with wonderful aromas, while your pears soak up the flavors in their slow cooker hot tub. A bottle of sparkling cider, a cinnamon stick (or two) and a vanilla bean is all you’ll need. Peel your firm but still ripe pears, slice them in half and remove the core with a melon baller or spoon, before you add them to the crockpot. It will heat the liquid to the perfect temperature to infuse the pears with whatever flavors you put in there. I know there are a ton of recipes floating around on the internet for poached pears. I wanted to create something a bit different that you could create with the convenience of a slow cooker. I love the idea of setting up the pears to cook before bed and waking in the morning to delicious pears you can place in your porridge, hot cereal, crepes or pancakes!
Once I removed the pears, I added some brown sugar and reduced the poaching liquid on the stove down to a syrup, which I spooned over the pears and tasted absolutely delicious. I would include this step if you plan on serving these pears as a dessert with the cream cheese topping. If you are serving them as part of your breakfast, you could skip that step. Vanilla Cinnamon Poached Pears

A beautiful and simple way to serve fresh pears, slow cooked over several hours in aromatics that impart a lovely flavor. Serve with breakfast or after dinner as a dessert.
- 3 ripe but still firm pears, peeled, sliced in half and cored
- 1 bottle of sparkling cider
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 vanilla bean, sliced lengthwise tip to tip
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 4 oz of cream cheese, softened (1/2 a package)
- 4 oz of marshmallow creme
- Place pears, cinnamon stick and vanilla bean in a slow cooker. Pour the entire bottle of sparkling cider over the pears and set the slow cooker to your desired time, (low for overnight) either high or low will work.
- When finished, remove pears and set aside. Discard the cinnamon stick and vanilla bean. Pour the poaching liquid into a large sauce pan, stir in the brown sugar, and boil over high heat until reduced to about one quarter the original amount of liquid. Remove from heat.
- Whip the cream cheese and marshmallow creme together with either a stand mixer or hand held mixer. Serve individual pears with a dollop of cream cheese mixture and syrup drizzled over the top.
