A Healthy, Hearty and Delicious Breakfast

Now that Fall season is officially here, what will you do to change your morning breakfast routine? How does a hot, steaming bowl of oatmeal sound? I’m in love with Pacific Organic Steel-Cut oatmeal. It’s pre-cooked and ready to eat in cute single serving boxes! Steel-cut oatmeal (aka Irish or Scottish oats) is made when the ‘groat’ is cut into several pieces, rather than rolled. You get more of the whole grain and therefore more fiber and protein per serving so you feel fuller longer and have more energy. Yay Steel-cut oats!

Okay, so we know that Steel-Cut oats are better for you than rolled oats. However, Steel-Cut oats take much longer to cook. If you plan to cook them at home, they’re a great option for an ‘overnight’ oats recipe. The grains are thicker and just take longer to absorb the liquids and soften up. That’s why Pacific Organic Steel-Cut Oatmeal is so great. It’s already cooked and ready to eat!Vanilla Banana Steel-Cut Oatmeal

This last week I’ve been able to pack these cute little on-the-go boxes into my husband’s lunches so I know he’s eating a healthy, hearty lunch too. I include a box of oatmeal, a banana, some nut granola and a container with berries and a little vanilla. Just warm the oatmeal  for about 45 seconds, and mix in the nuts, berries and banana. You now have an instant, on the go ready made meal. I love it! No more worries about oatmeal boil-overs on the stove or microwave. I just think they are so cool!

Pacific Organic Steel-Cut Oatmeal flavors

Pacific has created five different varieties to choose from. You can choose from the ever classic Maple and Brown Sugar or Apple & Cinnamon. Or if you like to add in your own special flavors, you can choose from Unsweetened (zero sugar), Lightly Sweetened, or my personal favorite the Flax and Chia Powder. It is lightly sweetened and has 7 grams of protein. I like to take a box of Flax and Chia Powder and make my Vanilla Banana Steel-Cut Oatmeal. That’s one healthy delicious bowl of goodness right there! Plus I know I’m avoiding the all too familiar sugary breakfast overload and impending crash an hour later.  I know if I eat a bowl of steel-cut oatmeal I’ll be full for hours with the energy boost I need to get me through my busy day.
