Store it in your fridge for weeks to use as needed to elevate any savory recipe. Use it to season herbed baked chicken, roasted herbed potatoes, herbed rolls, or herbed roast beef; or melt a spoonful over a freshly grilled steak for a truly gourmet taste.

Try this Herbed Butter recipe for turkey by rubbing it underneath the skin and over the skin before roasting. Smear some herbed butter over bread- I would toast slices of Italian bread in the oven with this butter for a quick side dish to weeknight spaghetti.

How to make Herbed butter with dried herbs

Herbed butter, also known as compound butter, is a simple condiment you can make with fresh or dried herbs. The combinations of ingredients are endless, but most common is a combination of garlic and common savory herbs you probably have in your pantry.

Simply set one cup of salted butter out to warm on your counter to room temperature. Then mix in one total teaspoon of dried herbs (or one tablespoon finely chopped fresh herbs) and 1-2 teaspoons pressed or minced fresh garlic. Garlic powder works too!

These amounts listed above are arbitrary; some folks may prefer to add more or less garlic and herbs. Some may want to add a bit of parmesan cheese (delicious), dijon mustard, or red pepper flakes. It’s best to start with smaller amounts, and you can adjust afterwards in subsequent batches, to your taste.

Once you’ve made your herbed butter, roll it up on parchment paper and store it in the fridge. It’s best made a couple of days in advance- it does need some time in the chilled fridge to allow the flavors to meld throughout the butter.

However you choose to make it, you will quickly see that using it takes a meal from mediocre to gourmet. Need some recipe ideas for using Herbed Butter? Here are a few ideas:

Description

This herbed garlic butter recipe is your secret weapon to truly make your food taste exceptionally delicious. You can absolutely use the dried herbs in your pantry to make this- or use fresh herbs from your garden or the grocery store. Mix in some freshly chopped (or pressed) garlic to tie all the herb flavors together for a gourmet taste at your fingertips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sticks of softened, room-temperature salted butter (1 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon dried herbs or two tablespoons of freshly chopped herbs (can be a mixture of any of the following: parsley, thyme, rosemary, sage, oregano, tarragon, basil, marjoram, or any other savory herb of your choice.)
  • 12 teaspoons of freshly minced garlic cloves
  • Parchment paper for wrapping

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whip all ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Spoon out onto a piece of parchment paper (or a butter mold) and wrap tightly. Store in the fridge or freezer and use as needed.

Notes

You can use any savory herb of choice in this recipe- you don’t need to use all listed above. Even just two herbs, combined with the minced garlic in the butter, can be delicious!  I would avoid herbs such as mint or peppermint since they don’t fit into the savory taste profile.
