Your friends/family will be pleasantly surprised when they taste their first sip and experience the lovely flavor combination of kiwifruit, mint, and ginger ale. One cup of vodka can also be added for an adults-only party.

How to work with Dry Ice

Witches Brew with Dry Ice is TONS of fun thanks to a little frozen CO2 (known as dry ice) that you can pick up at many grocery stores. I got mine at my local Kroger store (thank you Smiths Food and Drug!)

A gloved hand holds a white chunk of dry ice.

It’s vital that you practice safety when working with dry ice. NEVER touch it with bare hands. I find heavy gloves and tongs are best. Bring a cooler with you to the store when you pick it up to keep the block of ice as cold as possible. It will last for a few days in your freezer at home, so you can purchase ahead of time if needed.

How to Make Witches Brew

This recipe for Witches Brew with Dry Ice starts simple, literally! Start by making a simple syrup on the stove with one cup of granulated sugar melted into 1 cup of water. While your simple syrup warms on the stovetop, place peeled and quartered kiwifruit in a blender with mint leaves. Once the sugar in your syrup is dissolved, add the syrup to the blender and puree for about 1 minute.

Pour the blender contents into your desired serving container, then stir in a two-liter bottle of ginger ale, and a few scoops of green sherbet. You now have your Witches Brew.

Next, while wearing good gloves, open your dry ice package. Using the blunt end of metal tongs, or a butterknife, chip the block into small pieces. You have two options here: either place a whole bunch of marble or pea-sized pieces into your punch bowl and try to scoop one piece of dry ice into each guest’s cup OR place three or four larger size pieces into the Witches Brew just to get the bubbly/steamy effect without serving any guests dry ice. Just know that you MUST tell your guests not to drink the dry ice!
