You may have to forgive me for making this Cold Buster Smoothie Bowl recipe post a little short~ I’m battling my own nasty respiratory bug and am trying to rest and take it easy. I’ve been downing these Cold Buster Smoothie Bowls to help myself get well.

How to kick a cold:

  • You should drink tons of fluids when you’re sick

  • Get lots of rest (I binge watch my favorite musicals while downing a Cold Buster Smoothie Bowl)

Two ingredients I use in this smoothie make it stand out from the rest.

Firstly, I had oranges on my grocery list, but I happened to see a bag of Cara Cara oranges at Walmart and I scooped it right up into my cart.

Cara Cara oranges are a good source for vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, potassium, protein and the carotenoid, lycopene, which gives them their pink color. – Specialty Produce 

Secondly, I was going to pick up some coconut water for this recipe, but I happened to pass a stand of Bai beverages, and decided that the Bai Antioxidant Cocofusion would make a much better ingredient, since I’m looking to load up on antioxidants anyway! Of course, good quality coconut water will do just great in this recipe as well.

I’m sorry to say I didn’t snap any process photos for you guys, but it’s a really simple recipe. Just put everything in a good blender, starting with the frozen fruit first, and puree it for a good minute. You can certainly drink it from a glass with a smoothie straw, or pour it into a bowl and top it off with even more healthy ingredients, like muesli, more fresh fruit and a sprinkling of chia seeds (as shown in my photos).

If you’re feeling nasty, I’ll be the first to say, “feel better quick!” I hate feeling icky, and it always comes at the worst times! I would always get sick during finals in college because I’d wear down my immune system by not getting enough sleep and eating crappy food. Good luck, enjoy the smoothie, and get lots of rest!

Description

Kick that nasty cold with some powerful tropical cold fighting ingredients! Banana, Cara Cara orange, pineapple, coconut, honey and ginger are blended with a sprinkling of chia seeds and coconut water to give your immune system a powerful boost.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup Bai Antioxidant Cocofusion Molokai Coconut beverage
  • 2 Cara Cara Oranges, peeled and separated
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 heaping tablespoon shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste, or freshly grated ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender. Run the chop ice feature if you have it for about 10-20 seconds. Then puree for 1 to 1 and 1/2 minutes. Pour into serving bowls and top with muesli or granola and fresh fruit if desired. Serve.

Notes

Regular oranges can be substituted for Cara Cara oranges, and any brand of coconut water can be substituted for Bai Molokai coconut beverage.

  1. Thank you for the informative article. Great choice of healthy smoothies and they all look delicious! I love that you’ve included some smoothie bowl recipes too. They’re a great alternative to smoothies and they’re also more calorie dense so they’re more likely to fill you up for longer!
