Fruity Fun with Fruit Kabobs: A Rainbow of Flavor

There’s something undeniably magical about colorful fruit on a stick. Maybe it’s the vibrant rainbow of juicy bites. Or maybe, it’s how easy they are to grab and munch on at a party. Or perhaps it’s just how adorable they look when made with a melon baller!

Either way, I am officially obsessed with these party fruit skewers—especially when they’re made with watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

I recently put together an Easter Brunch where I served these melon ball skewers, along with a Strawberry Cream Cake roll cake and Brazilian Lemonade to drink. Everyone raved about how beautiful and tasty it all was, and they were all delighted by the Melon Ball Fruit Skewers!

Fruit Kabobs for a Party

They’re not just delicious and refreshing—they’re beautiful. People are drawn to them the moment they lay eyes on them. Think of them as an edible centerpiece for your potluck or summer barbecue side-dish table, adding instant color and cheer. And the best part? They’re so easy to make, even your kids can help! (If you have kids.)

Let’s talk about how to turn simple melons into a fruity fun creation perfect for Easter brunch, baby showers, summer BBQs, and beyond.

Mini Fruit Kabobs

What size skewer should you use to make fruit kabobs? ANY SIZE YOU WANT. Most bamboo skewers are going to be around 8 to 10 inches long. That’s what I used for the photos in this blog post. If you want mini skewers, try looking at your local party store or on Amazon for shorter ones. Mini fruit kabobs would be soooo cute!

Most folks will use a combination of ripe watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew for the melon portion of the skewers. If you want to keep it simple, stop there. They will already be a fun treat!

The Power of the Melon Baller

If you’ve never used a melon baller before, let me be the one to convert you. This tiny kitchen gadget may be sitting at the back of your junk drawer- and you don’t even know it’s there! (Ask me how I know…) A melon baller turns ordinary chunks of melon into perfect spheres that look like they came straight out of a magazine.

I couldn’t find my melon baller the day I scheduled this photoshoot, so I grabbed the next best thing, a small cookie dough scoop. It worked great too, saving the party and making these melon ball fruit skewers all the more juicy to eat since the chunks were a little bit bigger.

But if you want these melon skewers to have a more complex and sophisticated taste, consider adding small chunks of marinated fresh mozzarella, folded prosciutto slices, basil leaves, and a balsamic glaze drizzle like the picture below, to take these appetizers over the top!

Fruit Kabobs for Easter and Other Celebrations

Springtime is when fruit kabobs shine. Fruit kabobs for Easter are the perfect way to add color to your brunch table without a lot of work. Serve them alongside deviled eggs, muffins, or even a carrot cake, and watch your guests reach for the fruity skewers every time.

They’re also a really fun food for a baby shower, especially when you want to serve something light and festive. (Pro tip: If you know the baby’s gender, you can add a few color-matching blueberries or strawberries to the kabobs for a fun themed twist!)

And don’t overlook birthdays, picnics, or even lazy Sundays on the patio. Whether you’re planning fruit kabobs for a party or just making after-school snack time more exciting for your kiddos, this treat always brings a smile.

Fruit Kabobs Dip Ideas

While these kabobs are delicious on their own, serving them with a dip takes things to the next level. Here are a few fruit kabobs dip ideas to try:

  • Honey Yogurt Dip: Mix plain Greek yogurt with honey and a splash of vanilla.
  • Whipped Cream Cheese Dip: Blend cream cheese with marshmallow fluff for a dessert-like experience (my personal fav!)
  • Chocolate Drizzle: Melt some chocolate and drizzle over the kabobs for a sweet surprise.
  • Balsamic Vinegar Drizzle: Add basil leaves and mozzarella balls with a Balsamic vinegar drizzle and turn these into Caprese melon skewers
  • Marshmallow Cream Drizzle: (aka “Mallow sauce”) and some sprinkles will turn ordinary melon fruit skewers into Unicorn fruit kabobs. Watch kids go nuts over this
  • Coconut Cream Dip: Whip coconut cream with a little powdered sugar and lime zest. So tropical!

These dips can be set out in small ramekins, or you can even drizzle directly onto the kabobs, whichever you prefer!
